Osaka Metro "Namba Station" — 3 min walk
The Glico Running Man sign has been shining over Dotonbori since 1935, undergoing several redesigns over the decades. Standing roughly 20 meters tall, it is the undisputed emblem of Osaka sightseeing. After sunset it lights up in six LED colors, blazing even brighter against the night sky. The classic viewpoint is from Ebisu Bridge (Ebisubashi), looking across the canal at the full neon panorama.
The area around Dotonbori is packed with famous names in Osaka cuisine. Takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and kushikatsu are the big three. Kureouru's takoyaki (crispy outside, molten inside), Mitsu's Osaka-yaki okonomiyaki, and Daruma's kushikatsu (light, crunchy batter) represent each genre — a comparison tour between all three is the Dotonbori way.
The roughly 1km promenade running along both banks of the Dotonbori River is ideal for a relaxed stroll, with canal-side cafes and bars for a break along the way. The "Tombori River Cruise" (¥700 per adult, approx. 20 minutes) offers an entirely different perspective — looking up at the neon signs and billboards from the water creates an atmosphere unlike anything on land.
